LGBT+

We pride ourselves on inclusivity

We do everything we can to offer the best service to support members of our LGBT+ community.

Not to toot our own horn, but we have a very good reputation for adapting our service to help people be themselves. We do our best with advice and referrals to sexual health clinics, identity clinics or, if needed, counselling services. We also work hard behind the scenes to support name changes and acquire new NHS numbers for patients transitioning.

Our patients have told us what is going well and we are always open to feedback so we can learn and improve. We know the system is far from perfect but we will do what we can to make things easier.

Helping everyone feel welcome

We encourage our team to:

  • Promote values that support the community
  • Use inclusive language
  • Affirm the identity a person chooses to use
  • Assure confidentiality and respect
  • Acknowledge and learn from mistakes if something goes wrong
  • Avoid assumptions and use correct names and pronouns. Please tell us your preferred name or pronoun as we have lots of patients and a lot of names to remember

How else we can help:

  • You will have a choice of two practice sites. You can pick whichever is closer or feels safest to you
  • A wide range of local services ready to support you
  • A diverse team, many with knowledge of intersectionality and a passion for reducing health inequality
  • We have a zero tolerance policy for inappropriate behaviour and we enforce it
  • We actively listen. All feedback is seen and we do our best to learn and improve

We will not get it perfect. It is not one size fits all but we will try our best.
If we get it wrong please tell us. That way we can work to make sure it does not happen again.
